As they say, life is a good teacher. A rabbi recently told me, all our worst memories, heartbreak, painful events, and dumb decisions all had a purpose in our lives. Life broke us, or damaged our hearts. But, don't remain there, know that Messiah put us back together and we're now better people. We ran the gauntlet and survived whole at the other end.
But this painting has several meanings. One, when hurtful things or troubling people come into our lives, run away, as fast as you can. The signs are all there but many times we live in denial. The egg is now broken open and the life which was once in there has escaped, to safety. Don't look back. One dear friend said imagine being a ship captain, and as the very large ship, filled with many lives, cruises forward, sadly, the captain spends his time looking backward at the waters he's already crossed through. It could be another Titanic experience! She also said, value the friends you have NOW, the ones who choose to continue on in your lifes adventures, not the ones who left. Go forward, escape. Sound wisdom of friends.
The second meaning, compares the tension between an egg being a protective entity, but also a very fragile one at that. Many times the things which provide us the illusion of security, also make us feel trapped. Stuck inside, living safely, so we think. The egg simply needs a few taps from the inside to collapse, and out you come. If fear is your captor, break free! And don't be bound in the process of looking backwards. Exciting times lie ahead.
